► (1841-1904) Seudónimo de John Rowlands, periodista y famoso explorador británico. Fue enviado por el New York Herald en busca del doctor Livingstone (1871), a quien halló en la región del lago Tanganica. Alcanzó renombre universal por sus exploraciones de Abisinia, Congo, Zanzíbar y las fuentes del Nilo. Publicó, entre otras obras, A través del continente oscuro (1878).
